Welcome!
Thank you for visiting the FPS Orchestra Website.
We are so very glad to have you as a part of our wonderful FPS Orchestra family this year!
This is our primary location for posting info and communication for parents, students, and community.
We are working diligently to prepare for students and classes this fall. Classes will be live this year for all students.
We will continue to utilize Google Classroom for assignments and class specific announcements.
Rehearsals will be all together but students will use Essential Elements Interactive & Smart Music for practice on music and material at home.
The Virtual Learning Links on this web-page will include resources for students and parents to provide extra recourses for practice and learning outside of the regular classroom.
Below are several links for getting started. These include links for instruments, supplies & method books.
First Days of Classes:
Students will not need to bring instruments on the first day of classes both at Jr. High School Schools and at FHS.
7th Grade Beginning Orchestra students will not need to begin bringing their instruments to class until later in the week or at the start of the second week of school.
8th Grade Intermediate Orchestra students will also not need their instruments until after the first few days of classes.
9th - 12th Grade FHS Orchestra students will not bring instruments on the first day of class. All orchestra students will receive a locker that they will use to store their instrument during the first week before you will bring your instrument.
If you have your instrument ready early, that is great. You do not need to wait to get your instrument and supplies. Try to get them as soon as possible (some items may take time to ship or be in-stock). Contact your orchestra teacher if you need some help or have any questions.
There are regular updates and posts being made to the website, so please check back regularly!

School Instrument Usage:
We have a limited number of school instruments that can be loaned to a student based on need and availability.
We ask that before requesting to use a school instrument that parents first check about getting your own instrument as there are many cheaper alternatives to purchasing an instrument that can make it possible to get your own instrument easily and upgrade as you grow or improve.
There is a very significant positive impact on the level of commitment in learning when a student has their own instrument. Students that have their own good quality instruments are more likely to take ownership for their learning, practice to progress more quickly, and be more motivated to continue playing long term.
Every student will need an instrument at home to practice and complete assignments:
Violin and Viola: This will be the same instrument that you use in class (traditional/hybrid/virtual).
Cello & Bass: You will have your personal instrument that is for home practice (and concerts) and you will use a school instrument in class (Traditional/Hybrid). Cello students who wish to play their personal instrument in class may do so as long as you have a way to safely bring it back and forth from home to school (the bus is not a very safe mode of transport for larger instruments).
Please use the links above to find teacher approved instrument shops both locally and online.
We want to help make sure that every child who is motivated to learn a stringed instrument and wishes to join the orchestra is able to do so.
Please contact your orchestra teacher if you have any questions or need help!

OCTOBER MONTHLY MESSAGE:
It is October and the weather has finally started to cool down a bit.
This is a time that your instrument may need a little extra maintenance when tuning as the cooler temperatures can cause pegs to slip and strings to go out of tune. If you have a string or peg loose be sure to have your teacher adjust it for you if you are a beginner or are not comfortable adjusting it yourself without breaking a string.
Students have been working on the Monster Mash and All-Region Music this past month and are really starting to get it down!! It is always so satisfying to see the progress in class and we are looking forward to performance and auditions later this month.
The Monster Mash Fall Concert is on Monday, October 25th at the FHS PAC (FHS & Jr. High 8th Grade students will perform on stage and 7th Grade students will attend the performance).
Performers will arrive at 5:30pm to rehearse and warm-up.
The doors open to the PAC at 6:30 for audience members and the concert begins at 7:00pm.
All-Region Orchestra Auditions are on Saturday, October 30th.
Please see the link for sign-up and further information (Click Here)

Print parts & get a head start on next year's all-region auditions to give you the best possible chance of passing the audition!
Tips for Successful Auditions:
Practice will make a huge difference! If you know the material well you can do your best even when you are nervous.
Also, try to take lessons, listen to the music, practice with recordings/play-alongs/metronome, work on the hard parts first, play smaller sections, repeat to perfect them, and record yourself and listen back to areas you need to work on!
*Note: Symphonic All-Region Excerpt is the "Magic Flute" Mozart & 2 Etudes.
Beethoven & Brahms excerpts are for All-State Only
