How to Participate in the FPS Orchestras Solo & Ensemble Festival 2026!
1) Choose your music (Use 8 Notes or Make Music Cloud)
- Consider the difficulty & playability of all parts when choosing and make sure something that is challenging but that you can be successful on as either a solo or ensemble with a reasonable amount of practice and preparation.
- Remember you will also need to find time to practice with the piano accompaniment for solos and/or the other members of your ensemble outside of class time to be successful!
- Also, pick appropriate music for adjudication (holiday songs, same songs we are practicing in class, method book songs, pass-offs, scales, songs without piano accompaniment or other parts unless written specifically to be unaccompanied are not generally accepted for these kinds of events).
2) Complete the Sign-Up Form (complete a separate form per piece/category)
Solos - If you choose a solo that has piano accompaniment you must play with the recording or find a pianist.
Ensembles - If you choose a Ensemble you must choose a piece with separate parts for each instrument and make sure your group will practice and prepare their parts to play for the judge and for the recital if chosen for Honors Recital
* If your Sheet Music is not from the pre-approved list (8 Notes Links or Make Music Cloud) then Complete the Approval Form .
*You will also need to purchase 2 originals of the sheet music for yourself and the judge for final approval.
(Currently only 8 notes links to sheet music are pre-approved so that you do not need to purchase sheet music)

Solo & Ensemble Festival
Students play for an adjudicator to receive feedback and ranking. Scheduled for Saturday 4/4/26 @ FHS (8:30 AM -3:30 PM) Your specific time will be on the schedule for an AM or PM slot based on availability of adjudicators, ensemble needs, scheduling needs. Requests for AM / PM Time Slots: I will try to accomodate early requests for AM or PM time slots as much as possible but other factors listed above may limit how much I can adjust the schedule around. Requests made the week of adjudication are not generally possible as it is very difficult to accommodate late requests the week before the event. (However, if it is an emergency or unavoidable situation then please let me know and I will see if there is something I can do to accomodate) ---------------------------- Solo & Ensemble Honors Recital Thurs. 4/16/25 in the FHS PAC. 6:30 pm All Students who make a Superior Ranking with Honors will perform there solo & ensembles this evening Vertical Divider
