INSTRUMENTS (Click Tabs to View Info)
INSTRUMENTS:
Every student will need an instrument at home to practice and complete assignments:
We ask that all students rent or purchase the instrument that they will use for home practice and concerts.
*Please use the links on this page to find teacher approved instrument shops both locally and online. In the beginning it is usually best to rent since students will get a good quality instrument that can be sized-up after they grow and may need a larger sized instrument (usually it is free to size up since it is included in the rental fee). Later when students are ready to upgrade they can trade-in and/or purchase an instrument that is for more advanced players.

Violin and Viola: You need to have your own / rental instrument that is for home practice, in class, and at concerts)  This will be the same instrument that you use in class and at home (you can carry on the school bus).

Cello & Bass: You need to have your own / rental instrument that is for home practice and concerts. You will be assigned a shared classroom instrument to play in class (shared with other classes) that cannot be taken home or to concerts. There will not be enough classroom instruments for all students to use at concerts or home which is why you will need your own / rental cello or bass. Cello/Bass students who wish to play their personal instrument in class may do so as long as you have a way to safely bring it back and forth from home to school (for example: if you are a car rider, you cannot however transport these larger instruments on the school bus).

School Instrument Usage: (LIMITED BY NEED & AVAILABILITY)
We want to make sure that every child who is motivated to learn a stringed instrument and wishes to join the orchestra is able to do so, however, we have a very limited number of school instruments that can be loaned to a student based on need and availability.
Therefore, we ask that before requesting to use a school instrument that parents first check about getting your own instrument as there are many cheaper alternatives to purchasing an instrument that can make it possible to get your own instrument easily and upgrade as you grow or improve.
There is also a significant positive impact on the level of commitment in learning when a student has their own instrument. Students that have their own good quality instruments are more likely to take ownership for their learning, practice to progress more quickly, and be more motivated to continue playing long term.

Please contact your orchestra teacher if you have any questions or need help!
