September Monthly Message!
It is already September and we have been working on new music in all the orchestra classes!
The FHS Orchestra has been learning the Monster Mash concert music in class and in instrument sectionals.
We have been having fun playing these tunes and look forward to performing them in October!
Skeleton Waltz
Danny Elfman Spooktacular
Encanto
Sleepy Hollow
Alice in Wonderland
Gargoyles
Pirates of the Caribbean (Main Theme from the Curse of the Black Pearl)
Skeleton Waltz
The Woodland & Ramay 8th Grade Orchestra have also been learning Gargoyles, Pirates of the Caribbean (Main Theme from the Curse of the Black Pearl) , and the Skeleton Waltz and will play these at the Monster Mash as well the the FHS orchestra!! These pieces are a challenge for these student but definitely a lot of fun! I can't wait till you can see & hear them on stage all together playing!
Both the FHS & 8th Grade Orchestra Students have also been working hard on their scales and all-region excerpts.
There are links for practice videos for them to use for help at home as well. Use the links on the webpage here to view the videos for each separate group. Cadet - Concert - Symphonic
7th Grade students have been learning an amazing amount is a short time!
They have come from not knowing how to even hold the instrument to being able to play several songs with Pizzicato (plucking) and creating a great bow hold!
We also been working on ear training, rhythm training, note reading, music history, and music theory in class as well!
We have played a few fun games sprinkled in as well to help us learn some of these important concepts as well : )
Remember everyone should be practicing some at home as well as in class.
There is usually a practice video due each week that will demonstrate a skill or piece of music that students are practicing at home.
Parents, if you don't hear or see any practicing at home you might offer a gentle reminder! : )

School Instrument Usage:
We have a limited number of school instruments that can be loaned to a student based on need and availability.
We ask that before requesting to use a school instrument that parents first check about getting your own instrument as there are many cheaper alternatives to purchasing an instrument that can make it possible to get your own instrument easily and upgrade as you grow or improve.
There is a very significant positive impact on the level of commitment in learning when a student has their own instrument. Students that have their own good quality instruments are more likely to take ownership for their learning, practice to progress more quickly, and be more motivated to continue playing long term.
Every student will need an instrument at home to practice and complete assignments:
Violin and Viola: This will be the same instrument that you use in class (traditional/hybrid/virtual).
Cello & Bass: You will have your personal instrument that is for home practice (and concerts) and you will use a school instrument in class (Traditional/Hybrid). Cello students who wish to play their personal instrument in class may do so as long as you have a way to safely bring it back and forth from home to school (the bus is not a very safe mode of transport for larger instruments).
Please use the links above to find teacher approved instrument shops both locally and online.
We want to help make sure that every child who is motivated to learn a stringed instrument and wishes to join the orchestra is able to do so.
Please contact your orchestra teacher if you have any questions or need help!
